How to Make a Round Patio with Rectangular Pavers: A Step-by-Step Guide

Building a round patio with rectangular pavers is a great way to add beauty and functionality to your outdoor space. By following these steps, you can create your perfect patio that will be the envy of the neighborhood.

Materials Needed:

  • Rectangular pavers
  • Paver base or gravel
  • Sand
  • Tamp
  • Edge restraints
  • Measuring tape
  • Shovel
  • Wheelbarrow
  • Hammer
  • Level

Steps to Build a Round Patio with Rectangular Pavers:

1. Determine the Size and Location of Your Patio:

Choose a spot in your yard for your patio. Use a measuring tape to mark out the diameter of your desired patio. Make sure to leave enough space around the perimeter for the paver base and edging.

2. Excavate the Area:

Once you have determined the size of your patio, use a shovel to excavate the area. The depth of the excavation will depend on the thickness of your paver base and pavers. Generally, you will need to excavate 6-8 inches deep.

3. Install the Paver Base:

Fill the excavated area with a layer of paver base or gravel. Use a tamper to compact the base material until it is firm and level. This layer will provide a stable foundation for your patio.

4. Lay the First Ring of Pavers:

Start laying the pavers from the center of your patio. Place the pavers in a circular pattern, working your way out. Use a level to ensure that each paver is level and even with the surrounding pavers.

5. Continue Laying the Pavers:

Continue laying the pavers in a circular pattern, working from the center outward. Place the pavers tightly together, but leave a small gap between them for the sand.

6. Fill the Joints with Sand:

Once you have laid all the pavers, fill the joints between them with sand. Use a broom to sweep the sand into the cracks and crevices. The sand will help to stabilize the pavers and prevent weeds from growing.

7. Install Edge Restraints:

To keep your patio in place, install edge restraints around the perimeter. Edge restraints can be made of concrete, stone, or plastic. Secure the edge restraints with stakes or spikes, ensuring they are level with the pavers.

8. Clean and Seal Your Patio:

Once the patio is complete, clean it with a hose and let it dry thoroughly. You can also apply a sealant to the pavers to protect them from the elements and make them easier to maintain.

9. Enjoy Your New Patio:

Your round patio with rectangular pavers is now complete. Enjoy your new outdoor space by adding furniture, plants, and decorations to create a comfortable and inviting area for relaxation and entertainment.
