How to Replace Patio Chair Slings: A Comprehensive Guide

Faded, worn-out, or broken patio chair slings can detract from the aesthetic appeal and comfort of your outdoor furniture. Fortunately, replacing these slings is a relatively straightforward task that can refresh the look of your chairs and extend their lifespan.

Materials Required

  • New patio chair slings
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Cordless drill with screwdriver bit
  • Drill bits (appropriate size for sling holes)
  • Screws (appropriate size and type for slings)

Instructions

1. Measure and Cut the Slings

Measure the length and width of the existing slings. Add 2-3 inches to the measurements to allow for overlap and shrinkage. Cut the new slings to the desired size.

2. Remove the Existing Slings

Locate the screws holding the old slings in place. Use the cordless drill to remove the screws. Carefully lift the old slings off the chair frame.

3. Prepare the Chair Frame

Inspect the chair frame for any rust or damage. Clean or repair the frame as necessary. If the old slings left any residue, remove it with a damp cloth.

4. Install the New Slings

Place the new slings over the chair frame. Align the edges and overlap the corners by 2-3 inches. Use the drill to create pilot holes for the screws.

5. Secure the Slings

Insert the screws into the pilot holes and tighten them securely. Start from the center and work outwards to avoid uneven tension.

6. Trim the Excess Slings

Once the slings are installed, trim any excess material around the edges. Use scissors to cut along the frame.

Tips

  • Choose slings made from durable materials like mesh, vinyl, or Sunbrella fabric.
  • Tighten the screws snugly but avoid overtightening.
  • Use a drill bit slightly smaller than the screw diameter to prevent splitting the slings.
  • Apply silicone sealant around the screw holes to prevent water damage.
  • Inspect and clean the slings regularly to maintain their condition.
By following these steps, you can easily replace worn-out patio chair slings and restore the comfort and style of your outdoor seating.
